We caught up to Kashif Khan, CEO of Next Health, and asked him what makes his company special. This interview explains the Next Health process and company mission.
What is your company’s mission?
By empowering patients with personalized insights through advanced genomic interpretation, we will unlock their ability to deal with health at a system level, layers before symptomology, therefore reducing the burden of the cost, pain & time involved in treating chronic disease for patients and payers.
How does your process work?
It starts with a DNA test through a panel that we designed. We work with both consumers and clinicians to unlock what their DNA is trying to tell them and turn that into actionable wellness plans. We do this by targeting specific health silos, as opposed to generic DNA reports (ie. hormones, cardiovascular, executive function).
Are your company’s solutions well understood by the public?
DNA is still relativity new to the medical community and so there is a lot of education needed. There also has to be an understanding that there is something beyond the recreational consumer reports out there that clinicians do not want to adopt. So what is understood is that there is valuable information to be derived from DNA, what is not understood is how to do it. People are only now discovering that there are actionable insights available that can really change health outcomes.
What makes you different from your competition?
We do not believe that the linear gene by gen siloed interpretation is effective. That takes the most personal thing we have, our DNA, and de-personalizes it to fit the pharma clinical study model. To truly personalize you have to treat DNA as N of 1 and first understand that net results are not determined by reviewing what genes are doing independent of each other but instead how they interact in systems, mirroring biochemistry and our actual health systems (ie. the heart, the brain, etc.).
What are the most important health benefits of using your service?
We take areas in healthcare that are normally treated at the symptom level and are able to treat them at the system level. Meaning true root cause—personalized and preventative.
What do you think about the future of this industry?
We believe that as the data from DNA is interpreted more intelligently that the solutions that come out of innovative companies will solve bigger problems more efficiently.
